“When I hear Grüvoria, my ears start to burn…” ~ Errol Nazareth, CBC Radio
“ A jazz-funk powerhouse!” ~ JazzChill

Grüvoria is the brainchild of guitarist Blair Purdy, a karate Sensei and incredibly
rangeful musician who is inspired by primordial legends of jazz-funk such as
Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa, Herbie Hancock and John Scofield.
Purdy spearheads the gathering of Grüvoria, one of the most enduring and
respected jazz-funk bands in Toronto.

Grüvoria has been performing and recording together for over fifteen years.
They have released three full-length albums, two EPs and have performed well
over 100 shows. Their most recent release, A Crate Of Dynamite, is an explosive
3-song EP that showcases the band’s deep musical chemistry as well as Purdy’s
harmonically intricate, nuanced and often combustible sonic vision.

In 2006, the band’s second full length album Dirty Fuel put Grüvoria on the
Canadian map. The band received national attention and appeared on CBC Radio
programs Sounds Like Canada and Metro Morning. They have been in regular
rotation on Toronto’s flagship jazz station Jazz.FM 91 for close to a decade.
The last several years have been their most prolific songwriting period to date.
In 2013 they released their third LP, The Sixth Knuckle, followed up a year later by
the Space Butter EP. Now, Gruvoria’s trajectory of building their distinctive brand
of jazz-funk music continues upward with the release of A Crate of Dynamite.

Grüvoria’s festival and club resume includes the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival,
the Beaches Jazz Festival (Toronto), the Festival of Friends (Hamilton), Lula Lounge,
Trane Studio, Paintbox Bistro, Supermarket. They have shared the stage with
the likes of Elizabeth Shepherd, Souljazz Orchestra, Kobo Town, Burnt Sugar,
Four80East, and Freak Motif. Marathon late-night Grüvoria shows at
Lorraine’s Cool Jazz Joint are the stuff of underground legend in Toronto.
